Rehabilitation
Karuna Foundation Nepal works in close partnership with the provincial and local governments to implement the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Program (DPRP). The program is currently being implemented across all 137 local governments of Koshi Province, while its approach is also being expanded to other provinces in collaboration with government partners. Beyond DPRP, the organization works closely with government institutions across all programs to strengthen systems, foster collaboration, and maximize impact.
Karuna Foundation Nepal believes that sustainable development is achieved through strong government leadership and active community participation. Guided by this belief, the organization focuses on strengthening local government systems, building institutional capacity, and promoting community ownership to ensure that development initiatives are sustainable, inclusive, and locally driven.
Within the Share&Care
276 Children with disabilities in the current 7 Share&Care villages who all get the services they need according to the individual plan that has been developed together with the parents.
- 50 children completed rehabilitation and no longer experience the functional limitations for which they received support.
- 163 children received the medical treatment they needed.
- 86 children received assistive devices, including glasses, hearing aids, and wheelchairs.
- 241 children received physiotherapy services. Parents and caregivers were also trained to continue the recommended exercises at home.
- 224 children received scholarships through support from various organizations.
- Through the Share&Care program, 31 children who were previously out of school were enrolled in regular or specialized education.
- 30 young persons with disabilities received vocational skills training.
- 42 families of children with disabilities participated in livelihood support programs.
- 134 children received disability identity cards, enabling them to access available financial assistance and other government provisions.
- Awareness activities are conducted in all communities through campaigns, cultural programs, and street theatre performed by children with disabilities.
- 11 Community Rehabilitation Facilitators (CRFs) were trained to provide rehabilitation, educational, and referral support services within their communities.
- 78 children were organized into self-help groups, promoting peer support, participation, and inclusion.
Within Inspire2Care Pilot Phase
266 Children with Disabilities have been identified in 7 Prevention & Rehabilitation villages (2 different districts: Sunsari and Rasuwa).
1. In these 7 villages a Village Development Rehabilitation Committee has been formed with which an agreement has been signed.
2. In the villages a community based rehabilitation facilitator has been selected and trained.
3. On average 35% of the total project costs (2000 euro per village) has been mobilized locally.
