Message From The Chair Person

Dr .Vibhaas Basukala,
JURIS DOCTOR

Dear Friends, Partners, and Supporters,

Karuna Foundation Nepal was founded with a simple but powerful vision: a society where preventable disabilities are avoided, and where persons with disabilities live with dignity, inclusion, and opportunity. Guided by this vision, we have worked for more than a decade alongside families, communities, and governments to strengthen systems, reduce avoidable disabilities, and ensure care and rehabilitation where needed.

At the heart of our work is the belief that sustainable change only happens when communities themselves take ownership. Our Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Programme, now adopted and scaled in partnership with provincial and local governments, demonstrates how collaboration between people, systems, and policies can create lasting impact. This community-based model ensures that every child, woman, and person with a disability has a stronger chance to live a life free from stigma and full of possibilities.

We are deeply aware that much remains to be done. Barriers of access, awareness, and resources still leave too many families unsupported. Our responsibility is to bridge those gaps by listening to the lived experiences of persons with disabilities, by building stronger local systems, and by ensuring that inclusion is not just an aspiration but a reality.

Looking ahead, our focus is on prevention through early detection and maternal and child health interventions, rehabilitation and inclusion by opening pathways for persons with disabilities to learn, work, and participate fully in society, and sustainability by ensuring that local governments and communities have the capacity to carry forward these efforts independently. Above all, we are committed to keeping human rights, transparency, and non-discrimination at the core of everything we do.

We are grateful to our partners, donors, governments, and dedicated team members who make this mission possible. Most importantly, we are grateful to the families and communities who walk alongside us and remind us, every day, of what resilience and hope truly mean.

Together, let us continue to build a Nepal where no one is left behind, and where every individual is seen, valued, and included.
